Team decisions: proposals and approvals
The most valuable moment in a challenge is not the trade; it is the argument before it. ATLAS builds that argument into the process.
Propose
Any member can propose a trade and has to explain why. The proposer's vote counts automatically. Writing the reason forces a thesis, which also becomes material for the final report.
Approve
An order needs a set number of approvals from the team before it leaves the desk. In the IE challenge this was three. The team can discuss in the team chat before voting.
Expire
A proposal that does not collect its approvals within a time limit expires; in the IE challenge, 24 hours. Deadlines keep the team moving and teach that no decision is also a decision.
Execute at real prices
Once approved, a market order executes at the best price then available, and waits for the next open if the market is closed. A limit order fills only if the price reaches the level set.
Why it works for learning
Students have to defend ideas to peers, handle disagreement and weigh risk together, as an investment committee does. The record of proposals and votes also lets the professor assess teamwork.
Frequently asked questions
Can the number of approvals be changed?
Yes. It is a rule configured for each challenge.
What if a team member is inactive?
The platform records each member's proposals, votes and messages, so inactivity is visible to the professor.
Can orders be cancelled?
An order can be cancelled while it is still queued. Once executed, it can only be reversed with a new trade.
