How the status is calculated
Each exchange has its own time zone, session hours and holiday list. The status here applies that calendar to the current time: if it is a trading day and the clock is inside a session, the exchange is open; during a lunch break it is on a break; otherwise it is closed and we show when it opens next.
Hours are the regular continuous trading sessions. Pre-market, after-hours and closing auctions are described on each exchange page when the exchange publishes them. Early closes (for example the day after Thanksgiving in the US) are included in the holiday lists.
Holiday lists come from the exchanges’ own announcements; the source of every list is shown at the bottom of its page. Where an exchange has not yet published 2027, the page says so instead of guessing.

What time does the New York Stock Exchange open and close?
The NYSE and Nasdaq trade from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM New York time, Monday to Friday, except market holidays. Convert it to your own time zone on the New York page: the difference with Europe and Latin America changes by an hour for a few weeks each year, when the US and other countries switch daylight saving time on different dates.
Which stock markets close on Sunday?
Most exchanges trade Monday to Friday. Several Middle East markets such as Saudi Arabia’s Tadawul and the Egyptian Exchange trade Sunday to Thursday. India’s exchanges also open on Sunday on rare occasions, such as the Diwali Muhurat session.
What is an early close?
A shortened session before certain holidays, for example 1:00 PM New York time on the day after Thanksgiving. Early closes are marked in the holiday list of each exchange.
